Sierra Wireless unveils
rugged new modems

The new 3G modem from Sierra Wireless will look like this on the outside, but be speedier inside.

Sierra Wireless has unveiled the latest additions to its rugged mobile product line for wireless wide area networks. The company, which has offices worldwide including one in Carlsbad, says its new MP 595 and MP 875 modems will provide connectivity to new, faster 3G wireless networks in a rugged package ideal for harsh environments. The new models, which look like Sierra’s existing 775 model, feature electronics that increase speed and response times, along with allowing for the potential of new applications. The MP product line is designed for use in public safety, field service and transportation. Sierra Wireless opened its Carlsbad office in 2003 through the acquisition of AirPrime. Of the Carlsbad office’s 89 employees, 63 percent are engineers focused on CDMA product development.
