Scott Ashline gets a tremendous amount of satisfaction from the work he does as a financial adviser for the Downtown San Diego office of Northwestern Mutual Financial Network. He’s pleased by the clientele he’s cultivated both individuals and corporations. He likes being able to play a part in his clients’ well-being, whether it’s putting together a financial plan for education or retirement or estate planning.
“I never have the frustration that I haven’t helped people,” says Ashline, 38. “I tell my wife, I would do this job for a lot less money.”
A graduate of Boston College, Ashline spent a year teaching finance and accounting at a college in Belize, Central America. That experience was so rewarding that he has made an effort to volunteer for youth groups here.
Ashline is president-elect for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, where he has chaired three major fund-raisers. And he is “chief” of the Ecke YMCA Indian Princess tribe, a father/daughter organization of the Y. “I’ve found with youth that don’t have much, if you give them a little, there’s a tremendous amount of leverage,” he says. “ I just love trying to help.”
Ashline also loves spending time with his own children, 5-year-old Isabella and 8-year-old Amanda. He and his wife of 12 years, Noemi, raise their family in Carmel Valley.
“To me, it’s important to have a real sense of balance between family, work, community. I never want to be tremendously successful at business without being tremendously successful at the other things.”
