Julie Wright relied on her skills and networking to build a new business in a new country. Relocating from Canada, Wright’s greatest business accomplishment is her company (W)right On Communications, which has offices in San Marcos and Vancouver.
As a mother of two young boys, now 7 and 9 years old, Wright realized if she wanted to be a parent and have a career, she would need to be her own boss. Today her business is so successful that her husband, Grant, was able to leave his job at Sempra Energy in 2004 to work with her as CEO and managing partner.
Wright shares her drive for success with the community and lends her support to causes she feels are important. She is treasurer and executive committee member for the San Diego North Economic Development Council.
Wright, 38, also is communication task force chair for North County Health Services’ 2006 and 2005 capital campaigns, which raised $400,000 in two years. “This is an unsung organization,” she says. “It provides more services than anyone realizes.”
In response to Hurricane Katrina, Wright mobilized Escondido’s downtown merchants to create the Escondido Cares fund-raiser that collected more than $25,000 for the Red Cross and firefighters fund within 10 days of the disaster.
In an attempt to maintain balance in her life, Wright spends time with her family and tries to ride her bicycle to work when the weather allows. “Being a mother to two great sons is a personal achievement,” she says.
