Mike Reed has joined Five Point Capital as v.p. of operations and Irene Evans comes to the equipment leasing firm as v.p. of human resources. Reed has more than 30 years experience in the financial services industry including positions with PHI Financial Services, FS Credit Corp. and National Homes Corp. He holds a business degree from Purdue University and is a graduate of the Wharton School of Finance. Evans has 15 years of experience in personnel and human resources. She has held positions with MNS Human Resources Group, Vical Inc., Jostens Learning Corp. and Novartis Agricultural Discover Institute. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the College of Business Administration at University of Maryland.

Mark Doscher joined Barney & Barney’s San Diego office as director of executive risk for both public and private companies. He has been in the executive risk arena for more than 14 years — most recently with Marsh San Diego. Previously, he spent several years as a divisional manager for AIG.

Mark Sollenberger, a veteran of both the golf and real estate industries, was named director of sales and golf memberships for The Grand Del Mar, a resort destination being developed by Manchester Grand Resorts in North County. With more than 25 years of experience, Sollenberger was most recently the corporate director of sales and marketing for The Club at Black Rock, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. A former professional golfer, Sollenberger was recently inducted into the Arizona Golf Hall of Fame.

Torrey Pines Bank has named v.p. Steve Connolly manager of its new Kearny Mesa office, at 9280 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, the bank’s sixth San Diego County location. Connolly, a leader in Rotary International, was previously a v.p. with La Jolla Bank and Trust. Torrey Pines Bank also named Phil Bell as v.p., commercial lending officer for Downtown. Bell previously was with Bank of America and Wells Fargo Bank.

Karl A. Rand joined Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps as special counsel in the firm’s San Diego office. Rand specializes in employee benefits and executive compensation, ERISA issues, tax compliance and fiduciary issues. He is a certified specialist in taxation law and has joined the firm’s business/corporate practice group.

The Hard Rock Hotel San Diego appointed Melissa J. Olsen as director of sales. She was with Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, where she was associate director of sales, West Region. Olsen will oversee all aspects of sales for the luxury hotel, which will open in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter in the summer of 2007.

Chris Dahrling, a 26-year veteran of the homebuilding industry, was named president of Shoreline Communities, a Cardiff-by-the-Sea-based firm. Dahrling previously was a principal in Gateway Vista Associates Inc. where he managed the building of more than 1,000 homes in San Diego and Riverside Counties.

Tim O’Malley joined USD as v.p. of university relations following a national search. O’Malley has more than 30 years in education. He served for nine years as the vice president of university relations at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore., Previous v.p. for mission and university relations Monsignor Daniel Dillabough will return full-time to lead the university’s mission and ministry division.
