Qualcomm is sponsoring a 640-mile cycling event down the California coast next month to raise $1 million dollars for the Challenged Athletes Foundation, a San Diego-based nonprofit that helps disabled athletes live healthier, fuller lives through sports. Most of the riders training for the race live in the San Diego area. The money raised will help seed a capital campaign for foundation headquarters.
“We are proud to support the CAF and kick off the first Qualcomm Million Dollar Challenge,” says Jeff Jacobs, president of Global Development at Qualcomm and a former Ironman triathlete who plans to compete in the race. “Everyone should have the same opportunities to enjoy sports and athletics. Our goal is to help ensure that athletes with physical challenges enjoy the freedom many of us take for granted. We hope other companies and cyclists join us in supporting this important cause.”
