Deposits Decline in the Central Business
District, But Still Total The Most

Bank deposits actually declined since 2004 in San Diego’s cash-richest neighborhood, the Central Business District, aka Downtown 92101. Deposits grew from $2.23 billion in 1996 to $6.15 billion in 2004, but dropped slightly in 2005 and 2006 to $5.27 billion, still exceeding La Jolla and Rancho Santa Fe deposits combined. The market leaders in the CBD, Union Bank and Bank of America, both experienced deposit shrinkage in the last two years and both lost market share. Regents Bank increased market share nearly 64 percent to 1.64 percent of the Downtown market. SDNB edged up from 6.48 to 7.15 percent of the market.
