Shop Talk Q&A With Jeff Stone

What are your hobbies?

Golf, following the Padres, and trying to keep up with our grandchild.

What keeps you up at night?

Our beagle puppy

Have you ever had a mentor and what did he/she teach you?

Actually, I have had a few over the years, but the message is always the same: strive for consistency in terms of how you treat your staff and co-workers, your customers, and the marketplace, because in this business, reputation is king and you often do not get a second chance.

Five years from now, credit unions will…

…continue to be the most consumer focused of the financial services providers and a much larger player in offering business services as well. Growth in business services is a natural offshoot of what credit unions do every day. We are very willing to offer the same level of service to a small business owner as we do to a consumer member. Service is becoming increasingly important as more entrepreneurs are not able to find what we call "member advocacy" in the marketplace, as the mergers of the other financial institutions continue.
