Mary Cunningham, president and CEO of San Diego-based USA Federal Credit Union, was elected chairman of the prestigious Western CUNA Management School board. The school is one of the four regional schools for advanced training of credit union managers. It is sponsored by leagues of the Credit Union National Association. Cunningham joined the board in 2005, has been in the business for 30 years. She taught at CUNA Management School in Madison for six years.

San Diego mortgage broker Sandy Fitzpatrick has merged his Alexander Financial with Dick Palmer’s General Mortgage. Fitzpatrick formed Alexander Financial in 1978. Earlier, he played seven years of professional ice hockey, three for the original San Diego Gulls. Established in 1983, General Mortgage has closed more than $6 billion in loans.

A fixture in the South County since its 1992 opening at the EastLake Business Center, North Island Federal Credit Union has sold its building and in two years will move into a new six-story corporate headquarters at the Terraces at Copley Place in Kearny Mesa overlooking the SR-52 and I-805 interchange. Paying $27.4 million to purchase the 131,888-square-foot, two-story multi-tenant office building in South County at 2300 Boswell Road was Veralliance Properties Inc. Look for Veralliance principals Daniel Ryan and Bret Gossett to renovate the building’s lobby and common areas.
In the sale, North Island was represented by Paul Lafrenz, Don Mitchell and Paul Komadina of CB Richard Ellis, along with Dave Ferguson of Goldman Ferguson Partners. Veralliance Properties represented itself.

Corbin & Co., a 23-year-old accounting, audit and tax firm in Orange County, has changed its name to KMJ l Corbin & Co. and expanded to 2768 Loker Ave. W., Suite 101, in Carlsbad. Kendall Merkley, the firm’s managing partner since 2005, says the change includes the introduction of two newly promoted partners and expanded services in both markets. The two new San Diego partners are Tony Price and David Reule.

Jeanine Dodman has been promoted to senior v.p. and chief lending officer at Financial 21 Community Credit Union. Before joining Financial 21, she served as CFO of Escondido Federal Credit Union for 26 years.

San Diego National Bank reports net earnings of $15.14 million for the fourth quarter of 2006, up 87 percent from the 2005 fourth. For the year, SDNB earned $39.67 million, up 15 percent. Return on Assets hit 1.67 percent, up 11 percent from the 1.50 percent of ’05.
At Dec. 31, total assets reached $2.45 billion, up 5 percent. Deposits rose 8 percent to $2.20 billion, and loans jumped 23 percent to $1.95 billion.
Robert Horsman, president and CEO, says the bank plans to open new locations in Poway, Temecula, Mission Hills and Santee in the coming months. It currently has 21 offices in Carlsbad, Chula Vista, Clairemont, Downtown San Diego, Encinitas, Escondido, Golden Triangle, Fletcher Hills, La Jolla, Mira Mesa, Mission Valley, North Park, Oceanside, Pacific Beach, Point Loma, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho San Diego, San Marcos, San Ysidro, Southeastern San Diego and Vista.
