Jason Prescott is that guy at the gym sitting at the edge of the weight bench, furiously clicking his Blackberry with one hand while talking on a cell phone with the other.
“I try to go and just work out because my passion is fitness and staying healthy,” he says. But most of the time it’s his other passion search engines that really gets his heart rate up.
As CEO and founder of vertical search engine toptenwholesale.com, Prescott has led the site to become the Internet’s largest network of business to business wholesalers with 30,000 visitors a day. The San Marcos-based site reached revenue of over $1 million in 2005, its first year, and is in the top 10 percent of all traffic on the Internet.
“The whole world is about search right now and finding information accurately,” Prescott, 30, says. “Marketers need to understand how to get themselves listed and how to bring information to society as a whole.”
Prescott, who is single, expects to triple his 2006 revenues this year by offering site visitors industry news and advertising.
“We want to grow our customer base infinitely by becoming a media outlet,” he says.
