Shop Talk Q&A with Kevin Barrie

Hobbies and/or relaxations?

I enjoy movies, taking walks and exercising, doing home improvement projects, taking trips and discussing real estate and rental properties.

Did you ever have a mentor and what did he/she teach you?

I have had many mentors over the years, some good, some not, but I learned from all of them. The lessons that stick with me are: Be professional, follow up and follow through, be consistent, exceed expectations, utilize your resources, motivate and train, say what you mean and mean what you say, be committed to the cause, formulate your strategy and be willing to adjust if needed.

Five years from now, community banks will…

…be challenged to reach their clients in new and different ways as fewer customers are walking into branches to conduct their banking. Additionally, the ability to differentiate the service and product offerings in order to increase your share of wallet will become increasingly important.

What keeps you up at night?

Keeping the team motivated and committed while finding new and different ways to deliver on the bank’s strategy.
