By many measures, between 2000 and 2030, San Diego’s South County will be the regional leader. Consider these five projections from the San Diego Association of Governments:
- Population. South County grows by 60 percent (200,000 people), compared to 39 percent (1 million) for the region.
- Housing. South County’s stock expands by 50 percent (50,000 homes), compared to 30 percent (300,000) for the region.
- Employment. South County’s job base expands nearly 100 percent (75,000 jobs) compared to 30 percent (475,000) for the region.
- Household Income. South County’s median household income expands from $43,044 to $67,695 while the region’s moves from $47,538 to $64,644.
- Senior Population. South County’s population from ages 65 to 84 and 85 and older grows by 167 percent and 256 percent, respectively, compared to 131 percent and 175 percent for the region.
