Ten years ago a San Diego medical products company wanted to start up a small satellite office in Tijuana, but did not know how to navigate through Mexico’s regulatory laws and bureaucratic levels. For help it turned to Made In Mexico, a San Diego company that specializes in easing a company’s entrance into the Mexican marketplace amid changing rules and regulations. Today, that company operates a 190,000-square-foot distribution center in Tijuana and employs about 500 workers.
“We’re still providing services to the company,” says A.M. “Tony” Ramirez, executive vice president of Made In Mexico. “There are a lot of changes in the rules and regulations in Mexico relative to accounting and particularly in the tax area, so it makes sense to keep a company like us to keep a company abreast of all those changes.”
Ramirez, who has more than 30 years of experience in accounting and general management, including involvement in the Mexican maquiladora industry since 1975, is one of three principals of Made In Mexico. Dale Robinson, a veteran in the management of manufacturing facilities, is company president. Jack H. Sauerman, also involved in maquiladora industry management, is vice president of operations.

Established in 1986, Made In Mexico provides a range of management services to companies doing business in Mexico or wanting to do business there. It can provide expertise on customs, import and export logistics, the hiring of personnel, and permits, licenses and registrations that are required of a company doing business in Mexico. Ramirez says most of Made In Mexico’s clients are based primarily in California, but it has clients from Canada, Europe and Asia as well.
