A Bilingual Medical Marvel

< Peter Middleton | Lynn Hijar-Moya >

The manager of marketing and communications for Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista has responsibilities galore. For example, 34-year-old Monica Montano, who has filled the position since 2002, identifies, develops and implements marketing and communications strategies for the hospital that involve promotions, advertising, special events, public relations, Internet/Intranet and collateral materials. She’s also responsible for building relationships with community entities and media; for collaborating with key Scripps internal customers on special services and communications; and for development of the hospital’s annual marketing plan.

Montano is the hospital’s Spanish language spokesperson for corporate issues. She has a master’s degree with global management emphasis from the University of Phoenix, bachelor’s degrees in political science and journalism with television and radio emphasis from SDSU — and professional experience that includes positions with Southwestern College, OneWorld Entertainment and Univision KBNT Channel 19.

Among her affiliations are the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development, American College of Healthcare Executives, Healthcare Communicators of San Diego, San Diego County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, California Chicano News Media Association and the National Society of Hispanic MBAs.
