To get rid of an excess of energy, Lori Ann Stevens, 33, likes to swim, cycle and run all at the same time. More accurately, Stevens, newly named assistant vice president of Lowe Enterprises real estate group, is a triathlete in training for an Ironman competition next year, expecting to swim 2.4 miles, cycle 112 miles and run a full marathon (26 miles). I need to expend the energy somehow, says Stevens. Its very enjoyable.
At work, Stevens will put all of her energy into Lowe Enterprises multimillion-dollar redevelopment of the 37-acre County Operations Center in Kearny Mesa that will include 900,000 square feet of office space. I will be the construction manager, here for the next five or six years, says Stevens, who formerly was projet manager for Ledcor Construction. She set her sights on a construction industry career when she entered Arizona State University. She later obtained a masters degree in civil engineering from San Diego State. My fathers a nuclear engineer, she says. Instead of building power plants, I decided to build buildings. Co-workers at Ledcor had called her the resident tree hugger for her insistence on adherence to high environmental standards. She became a LEED Accredited Professional in 2004.
Despite a grueling training regimen, Stevens found time to be Ledcors Project Mercy Baja Challenge team leader. The team builds houses for Tijuana families.
