Cubic Corp. Rated No. 1 Aerospace and Defense Company

Cubic Corp. has been ranked by Aviation Week & Space Technology as the No. 1 aerospace and defense company reporting revenues between $1 billion and $5 billion in 2010. The magazine will honor the company and other category winners on June 22 at the Paris Air Show. “Cubic Corp.’s operating performance was superb in 2010, achieving its highest Top-Performing Companies score ever and besting a formidable group of peers to take the No. 1 ranking,” said Michael Lowry of Aviation Week. “The numbers suggest this result is not an accident. The company has posted an enviable history of higher highs and higher lows for the past 10 years. Nor does management appear content to rest on their laurels.” Lowry said that through the first quarter of 2011, Cubic Corp.’s earnings momentum continued to accelerate, reaching a level not seen since the aerospace and defense industry’s high-water mark set in 2007. Cubic reported revenues of over $1 billion for the first time in FY 2009 — the same year that Cubic celebrated 50 years as a publicly traded company. The company was launched in 1951 by Walter J. Zable, the company’s founder, chairman, president and CEO. Revenues grew more than 17 percent in FY10, reaching almost $1.2 billion. Since 2006, the company’s market capitalization has increased more than 250 percent to $1.3 billion today.

Since its inception, Cubic has played a prominent role in the aerospace and defense industry. In its early days, the company developed and pioneered a wide range of important tracking technologies, including systems to track missiles and the early manned space missions. Later, it branched into developing systems that track the position and performance of fighter pilots during air combat training exercises, and creating communications systems and networks for transmitting video and sensor data anywhere on earth.

New Brokerage to Focus on Hotel Industry

Gary London

Gary London and Robert Rauch, veteran San Diego real estate consultants, have formed a new brokerage venture focusing on hotel transactions. Hospitality Advisory Services, the new entity, offers hotel and transient commercial brokerage services. It is initially targeting Southern California hotel buyers and sellers ranging from limited to full-service hotels. The two principals said it’s not a new alliance, but an affirmation of what they have been doing all along. London is with the London Group Realty Advisors and Rauch is head of R.A. Rauch & Associates. “For more than 20 years we have worked together on many projects, including market and feasibility studies, strategic consultation assignments, development, asset management and litigation support,” said London. “Representing our clients to find deals and capital is a natural extension of our partnership.”

Robert Rauch

Added Rauch: “This alliance acknowledges the synergy that makes us a ‘one-stop shop’ for our clients requiring the purchase or sale of hotels and distressed assets. Presently, no focused hotel brokerage effort exists in this market. “That is the niche that we intend to fill.” Services provided by Hospitality Advisory Services include underwriting and financial analysis, feasibility studients, bankruptcy and receivership consulting, marketing, business plan development, expert witness testimony, among others.
