Showdown Over County Budget Reserve

By Voice of San Diego

San Diego County’s two Democratic supervisors plan to force a vote on Tuesday on their proposal to give county officials greater leeway to tap fiscal reserves during a time of unprecedented budget uncertainty.

Supervisors Terra Lawson-Remer and Monica Montgomery Steppe, the Board’s two Democrats, know their proposal will fail. Joel Anderson and Jim Desmond, their GOP colleagues, already signaled they’re not fans of the idea (which our Lisa Halverstadtdetailed here).

The Dems plan to ask anyway. They likely hope to emphasize the stakes of a July 1 special election to fill a vacant South County seat on the Board.

From the Cheap Seats: A Favor from San Diego Sup. Terra Lawson-Remer

By Garvin Walsh | California Globe

San Diego County Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer did a big favor for residents recently by making known how she wants to lead county government. She also made clear that voters in the upcoming District 1 special election will face a profound choice, between indulging her “bold” ambitions to expand the scope of county government or taking a more moderate, practical approach to solving problems.

Lawson-Remer, Vice Chair of the Board of Supervisors, outlined an expansive vision for San Diego County in her April 16 2025 State of the County address.

Absent from her message was a status report on where the county government now stands. There were no current performance metrics — like homelessness rates, housing production, crime statistics, fiscal benchmarks, or satisfaction with existing public services. Nothing to help assess the actual “state of the county” or whether the county’s existing initiatives are succeeding or failing.

‘Reparations Activist’ Has Issues With the Globe’s Depiction of Black Caucus Legislation

By Katy Grimes | California Globe

Globe article Saturday addressed several grave issues California Democrats are supporting, securing their position on the wrong side of history. This past week they blocked a bill to make purchasing sex from 16-17-year-olds a felony, for starters.

The Globe has been saying for several years now that the stupid people are in charge of everything in California, and Democrats proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt this past week. They also proved that they will say and do anything for money, because no actual human with a soul could advocate for policies that harm children the way purschasing sex from teenagers does.

One of the other issues is reparations: AB 57 is one of 16 reparations bills this year in the legislature.

The reparations bill proposes to give at least 10% of funds from California Housing Finance Agency’s home purchase assistance program to qualified individuals who are descendants of formerly enslaved people.
