On Homelessness, Supervisor Race Is a Tale of Two Cities
By Jim Hinch | Voice of San Diego
Here’s a remarkable political fact: One of voters’ top-ranked issues in the race to fill a vacant South County seat on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors has played virtually no role in the hotly contested campaign.
An ABC 10News poll released earlier this month found that San Diego County’s homelessness crisis ranked behind only the rising cost of living as voters’ most pressing concern in the race.
Yet, neither Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre nor Chula Vista Mayor John McCann, the two candidates in the race, have made homelessness central to their campaign.
State legislators close $12B budget hole by cutting health care for immigrants, those with low incomes
By Times of San Diego | Associated Press
California lawmakers on Friday approved a budget, later signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, that pares back a number of progressive priorities to close a $12 billion deficit.
They include a landmark health care expansion for low-income adult immigrants without legal status.
It’s the third year in a row the nation’s most populous state has been forced to slash funding or stop some of the programs championed by Democratic leaders. The $321 billion spending plan was negotiated by Newsom and legislative leaders.
In the End, Everyone Hated the Iranian Theocracy
By Victor David Hanson | The Blade of Perseus
It is hard even to digest the incredible train of events of the last few days in the Middle East.
Iran had been reduced to an anemic, performance-art missile attack on our base in Qatar—the last Parthian shot from a terrified regime, desperate for an out—and a ceasefire.
Iran would have been better off not launching such a ceremonial but ultimately humiliating proof of impotence.
Even worse for the theocracy, Iran’s temporary reprieve came from the now magnanimous but still hated Donald Trump.
