From Ranches to Small Mountain Towns, How Prop. 50 Would Change San Diego’s 48th Congressional District

If California’s voters approve Proposition 50 this November, San Diego’s remaining Republican leaning congressional district will be remapped, diluting Republican votes by bringing them into coastal districts. The current 48th district, represented by Republican Darrell Issa, includes a large area of East San Diego County – from rural areas along the border and in the mountains to right leaning suburbs like Alpine and Santee.

I spent weeks exploring the communities that could be redistricted by Proposition 50. The new boundaries would remove Poway, Ramona, Santee, Lakeside, and towns along the border and replace them with Vista, parts of Oceanside and Palm Springs. From ranches along the border, to East County’s agricultural fields and small mountain towns, daily life and its priorities in the current district take a much different shape than those communities along the coast.

Voters have until Monday to register for mail-in ballots in November election

The San Diego County Registrar of Voters’ office Friday reminded San Diegans they have until Monday to register to vote if they want to receive a ballot in the mail for the Nov. 4 special election.

If that deadline passes, eligible voters must visit the registrar’s office in Kearny Mesa or go to a vote center starting Oct. 25 to conditionally register and vote provisionally.

Registering to vote can be done online at sdvote.com. Would-be voters must register if they have not already done so, have recently moved, or have changed a names.

Why Trump is succeeding in the Middle East where Biden and Obama failed

The short answer to why both the Biden and Obama administrations failed to achieve peace in the Middle East is that they took actions opposite to President Donald Trump’s current efforts, which have led to a cease-fire.

 

First, consider Iran.

Iran was flush with cash, on a trajectory toward a nuclear weapon and arming Israel’s “ring of fire” enemies: Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis.

The radical Islamic world of the Middle East was convinced that Israel would be doomed eventually.

Yet both Democratic administrations let Iran profit from oil sales.
