Olympic soccer matches coming to San Diego in 2028
By Brooke Binkowski | Times of San Diego
The 2028 Olympics are coming to San Diego — at least, a small part of them – but local leaders are thrilled regardless.
Stadiums in six cities around the United States have been tapped to host Olympics fútbol (of the soccer variety) and Snapdragon Stadium is one of them, officials announced Tuesday at a news conference at the Mission Valley venue.
As Mayor Todd Gloria told Times of San Diego, “San Diego is a sports city and we can compete for global events and win.”
Los Angeles on the global stage: World cup super bowl and the Olympics
By UCLA Anderson Forecast
The Spring 2026 UCLA Anderson Forecast quarterly outlook will examine whether the U.S. and California economies are at a turning point. Have we moved past the most disruptive effects of recent deportation and tariff policies, or will persistent labor shortages and supply-chain costs continue to stifle key sectors like manufacturing, construction, and agriculture? Will the massive wave of AI infrastructure investment remain a tailwind for the economy, or will it be moderated in the face of unrealized demand? Will the softening labor market begin to recover amid fiscal stimulus from the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, and can California’s frozen housing market finally begin to thaw amid the Federal Reserve’s ongoing interest rate cutting cycle?
At the same time, Los Angeles is solidifying its status as a premier global sports capital as it will host a multi-year line-up with the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches at SoFi Stadium, the 2027 Super Bowl LXI, and the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. These events are expected to generate billions in economic activity and attract worldwide attention to the region.Join us for the conference, presented in collaboration with the UCLA Center for Media, Entertainment and Sports.
