Officials announce reward in Balboa Park parking meter vandalism

Officials announced a reward of up to $1,000 Tuesday for information regarding a recent felony vandalism spree that has ruined dozens of parking meters in the area around Balboa Park.

The spree of malicious damage, which occurred between Dec. 24 and last Friday, has left a total of 52 newly installed parking pay stations inoperable, according to the San Diego Police Department, and left tens of thousands of dollars in damages.

The responsible vandal or vandals variously spray-painted the machines, shattered their glass screens and/or put some sort of sticky substance on their keypads, rendering them unusable. The city has estimated the combined cost of the damages at roughly $77,000.

San Diego County’s real estate market has a growing problem, and it’s not high interest rates. Young kids are storming into empty properties and throwing illegal parties.

Some homes suffered thousands of dollars in damage when party-goers set off fireworks inside, knocked holes into walls or ripped smoke detectors off ceilings.

An NBC 7 Investigation discovered at least six of these ragers inside local homes listed for sale or rent since last August. Five happened within the span of 32 days.

Four Acts Revealed for the Fair’s Toyota Summer Concert Series

Marshmello, rockstars Good Charlotte, country rocker Koe Wetzel, and Fair favorites Los Tucanes de Tijuana will be part of the premier Grandstand entertainment series at the 2026 San Diego County Fair, officials announced Tuesday.

Tickets for the four acts — the first to be announced by Fair officials this year — will go on sale to the general public on Friday, Feb. 13. But San Diego County Fair email subscribers will receive pre-sale access on Wednesday, Feb. 11.

Tickets to the Toyota Summer Concert Series include complimentary same-day admission to the Fair, providing concertgoers with the opportunity to experience everything the Fair has to offer before and after the concert.
