San Diego Showed Up for Hunger Relief.
by San Diego Food Bank
Last year, families in every corner of San Diego County turned to the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank during moments of real uncertainty. Because of you, our generous donors and dedicated volunteers, they were met with nourishment, stability, and care.
As rising grocery costs and economic strain continued to affect working families, seniors, veterans, and children, your generosity powered a compassionate and effective response. You helped strengthen our partner network, expand access to fresh and nutritious food, and ensure that help was available when it was needed most.
In our newly released 2025 Annual Report, you’ll see the tangible results of your generosity. Together, we distributed more than 52 million pounds of food, expanded nutrition programs and emergency response efforts, as well as continued to build systems that helped our neighbors not only get through today, but move toward long-term stability.

San Diego International Airport (SAN) today announced the launch of SAN Assist, a new program designed to help travelers with non-visible disabilities feel more comfortable and confident when traveling through SAN.
SAN Assist is tailored for passengers with non-visible disabilities such as autism, chronic illness, sensory sensitivities, or other conditions that may make air travel challenging. The program offers personalized support and preparation resources to reduce stress and improve the overall travel experience.
SAN Assist Services include:
Travel Guides – One-on-one assistance to support passengers on the day of travel, helping them navigate the airport with greater ease.
Familiarization Tours – Pre-travel tours that allow passengers to practice navigating the airport environment ahead of time, building comfort, and confidence before their trip.
Request Guidelines:
All services are provided based on availability.
Travel Guides must be requested at least three business days in advance and are available daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Familiarization Tours are available for those with planned future travel and should be requested two to three weeks in advance of the desired tour dates. Tours are offered Monday through Friday during standard business hours.
“We are very proud to offer our SAN Assist program to help all travelers feel supported and welcomed at SAN,” said Kimberly Becker, President and CEO, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. “By providing personalized assistance and advance preparation options, our goal is to help all travelers easily navigate the airport experience and ensure their experience is positive.”
SAN Assist services are available in both Terminals 1 and 2. The program reflects SAN’s ongoing commitment to accessibility and customer care, recognizing that not all disabilities are visible, and that thoughtful support can make a meaningful difference.

The second homes tax returns — maybe with a better chance of council support
By Tessa Balc| Times of San Diego
Councilmember Sean Elo-Rivera has revised a proposal to tax empty homes, and it’s headed to a vote from a council committee on Wednesday.
The first time around, Elo-Rivera’s ballot measure packed two taxes into one proposal. He’s abandoned one of those ideas — a tax on short-term vacation rentals — after it generated strong opposition backed in part by Airbnb, which bused in paid protestorsfrom Los Angeles to speak against the measure.
This proposal would tax property owners $8,000 per empty second home in its first year and $10,000 per home in its second year. Corporate-owned empty homes would get a $4,000 charge in 2027 and $5,000 in 2028.
