Dunlop Tires scorches Gavin Newsom’s new rules that’ll have ‘startling’ impact on drivers
By Zahn Kahn | California Post
The California Energy Commission last week approved plans that will phase out the sale of replacement tires that do not meet energy-efficiency standards — potentially wiping out 70% of all those on the market.
The regulations target a tire’s “rolling resistance,” or how much energy it takes to keep a tire moving down the road.
Lower resistance means cars use less gas or electricity and get better mileage, which Democrats have argued will help make driving more affordable.
‘Super’ El Niño and San Diego – what scientists know now and what else they hope to learn
By Thomas Murphy | Times of San Diego
As San Diego city workers prepare for a potentially historic “super” El Niño, some scientists say it’s still too early to tell if San Diego and Southern California are in for historic rainfall and flooding.
Scientists at UC San Diego’s Scripps Institution of Oceanography have been studying the formation of this El Niño. Researchers published a new, multi-part FAQ guide explaining what El Niño is, why this year’s event could be unusually strong and how scientists are tracking it.
For San Diegans, El Niño can mean more rain, bigger surf, coastal flooding and warmer ocean temperatures. But scientists say it’s still too early to know exactly what this year’s event will mean, particularly when predicting rainfall and flooding.

by SDCCU
San Diego County Credit Union® (SDCCU®), one of California’s largest locally-owned financial institutions, has partnered with Legal Karma to present an estate planning webinar on Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. (PT). This free webinar is open to the public, but registration is required. For more details or to register, please visit sdccu.com/fww.
The presentation will discuss the importance of estate planning, what estate planning entails, different tools used in estate planning including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, health care directives, and the benefits that result from having an estate plan.
According to research from AARP, only 51% of adults aged 50 or older have a current legal will but 94% of them agree that having an updated will or trust is important. The findings highlight the importance of estate planning education and taking steps to ensure individuals and families are prepared for the future.
