Del Mar Is Out of Options on Seaside Ridge

It’s been more than three years since a developer first proposed building a 259-unit, mixed-income housing project dubbed Seaside Ridge on an oceanside bluff in Del Mar.
And it’s been two years since the city of Del Mar and the Del Mar Fairgrounds started “exclusively” negotiating about possibly building a different affordable housing project on the Fairgrounds property with around 61 affordable units.
Time sure does fly when you’re trapped in a bureaucratic death spiral.
Despite public outcry, migrant arrests surged in San Diego in past 12 months

New internal data from Immigration and Customs Enforcement shows a major surge in the number of migrant arrests in the San Diego region in the past 12 months.
In January 2025, ICE agents arrested 169 people in its San Diego Area of Responsibility, a territory that combines San Diego and Imperial counties, and that number held relatively steady through mid-2025. But monthly arrests rose to more than 1,000 in September 2025.
In July 2026, the number hit 1,964.

On the morning of May 18, two young men drove to the Islamic Center of San Diego and murdered three Muslim community members with the expressed desire – undoubtedly adopted from extremist internet forums – of perpetuating violence against non-white people.
The online coverage followed a grimly familiar script: news clips of grieving families, outraged commenters, videos of public officials solemnly speaking into microphones. But people who were angry about what happened soon found what may have seemed like an unusual target: San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria.
“Your presence is unwelcome here,” said Manalle Abdallah, 30, a member of the Islamic community with family ties to the mosque.
