Wounded Warriors Purchases House

for Veterans Suffering from PTSD and TBI

Wounded Warrior Homes has purchased an Oceanside house to provide transitioning veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) a safe home as they transition to civilian life.

The four-bedroom, 2.5 bath, 1,890-square-foot house will serve four veterans at a time. The house is Wounded Warrior Homes’ third property. The four veterans will be selected from the waitlist that Wounded Warrior Homes has of veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

The organization is looking for community support to make some repairs on the house as well as continue to find housing for the remaining veterans on the waitlist. Reach out to volunteers@woundedwarriorhomes.org to learn how you can help, or visit www.woundedwarriorhomes.org.

Corrie Mays: Blue Angel No. 8

Corrie Mays was selected for the United States Navy Blue Angels in July 2014 and joined the team in September 2014 as Blue Angel #8, where she served as the events coordinator and Squadron Naval Flight Officer. Not only was she one of the few to represent the United States Marine Corps, she was responsible for coordinating all Blue Angel related items for 130 flight demonstrations, multiple high visibility flyovers including Super Bowl 50, and planning over 350 community events across the country. She will speak at the Leadership Conference March 23 as part of San Diego Women’s Week sponsored by the North San Diego Business Chamber. Women’s Week runs March 19-21-23. Del Lewis Takes Top Reins

of San Diego Bowl Game Association

Del Lewis has been named 2018 president of the San Diego Bowl Game Association, sponsor of the SDCCU Holiday Bowl. He succeeds Marlee J Ehrenfeld.

The association’s signature event, the Holiday Bowl, celebrates its 41st anniversary this year and will once again bring to San Diego a match-up of top teams from the Big Ten and Pac-12 Conferences, along with a week of local events.

In 2018, the San Diego Bowl Game Association will also host college football’s longest continuous intersectional rivalry game. The Navy Midshipmen will face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at SDCCU Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 27.  The game will be nationally televised on CBS.

Lewis is a graduate of The United States Merchant Marine Academy. He holds a U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner’s license and held the rank of lieutenant commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve before honorably resigning his commission. He has served on several non-profit boards, including Hospice of the North Coast, the San Diego chapter of the March of Dimes and currently as an officer on the Conscious Capitalism San Diego board of directors.

Other 2018 elected officers of the association include: Paul Hering, president-elect; Dennis DuBard, treasurer; and Cherry Park, secretary.

Workshop on Cyber Security

The North San Diego County Association of Realtors (NSDCAR) will host “Cyber Security Protection for Realtors,” a workshop with Josh Sharfman, chief technology and innovation officer with the California Association of Realtors, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on March 15, at NSDCAR’s Vista Service Center, 906 Sycamore Ave., Vista.

Sharfman will share the last information about phishing, ransomware, wire fraud, cyptocurrency and zip form account hijacking. NSDCAR also will offer the workshop remotely via live-stream video at its Escondido Service Center, 1802 S. Escondido Blvd., Escondido, and Carmel Valley Service Center, 12250 El Camino Real, San Diego.

Cubic and Thales Partner to Compete

for UK Ministry of Defence Training Program

Cubic Corp. announced that its Cubic Global Defense business division will be teaming with Thales in the UK to bid for the Training and Simulation Systems Programme Joint Fires Synthetic Training (JFST) project. JFST looks to improve training capabilities delivered to the British Army by providing an immersive Joint Fires solution to train JF integrators in both mounted and dismounted roles – across land, littoral and air domains at the individual and collective levels.

Ann Buckingham is a member of the Mergers & Acquisitions Practice in the Corporate Department. Her practice focuses on M&A and joint venture transactions, as well as LLC structures, debt and equity offerings, technology transactions, and general public company representation. She has broad industry experience in the communications, technology, gaming, and life sciences sectors. Buckingham received her LLB from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand in 1994 and her BCL (masters in law) from Oxford University, England in 1997.

James Mann is a member of the Real Estate Practice in the Finance Department. He advises clients on a range of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, and development and financing transactions for all property types. Mann regularly represents major investment banks in connection with their financings of gaming and hospitality assets. He also advises on the real estate aspects of leveraged finance and project finance transactions in the energy sector. He received his JD/MBA from the University of Southern California, Gould School of Law in 2006.

Grinnell has been an active trial attorney since 1979 and partnered with Jon Epsten in 1984 to begin what is today Epsten Grinnell & Howell. Since that time, he has been responsible for numerous multi-million dollar jury verdicts and settlements, and has handled hundreds of construction defect cases in California. In 1996, he received the Outstanding Trial Lawyer Award.

Brian Zumbano Joins The San Diego Foundation

as Vice President of Development and Stewardship

The San Diego Foundation has hired Brian Zumbano as vice president of development and stewardship. Zumbano will lead the Development and Stewardship Division, overseeing The San Diego Foundation donor engagement and fundraising activities. He will be responsible for expanding and diversifying the organization’s donor base through strategic efforts that will grow The Foundation’s assets and increase the impact of charitable giving in the region.

Zumbano has 13 years of development experience with major institutions such as UC San Diego, New York University and Columbia University. For the past five years, he served as executive director and senior executive director of development for UC San Diego Health Sciences, where he managed a team of development professionals responsible for principal and major gifts. In this role, Zumbano helped prepare the Health Sciences Advancement organizational structure for the launch of the Campaign for UC San Diego.
