San Diego airport boosted by new Terminal 1, rise in international routes
By Deborah Brennan | CalMatters
California has taken a hit due to the slip in international travelers who want to visit the states. But San Diego is bucking the trend.
While foreign air travel is dwindling throughout California, San Diego International Airport saw a 5.5% boost in global passengers over the past year, with the addition of more international flights.
In May the airport launched direct flights to Amsterdam through KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, and in June it introduced Copa Airlines, with a flight to Panama that opens South America to West Coast travelers. Last year it bumped its nonstop flights to London from once to twice daily.
Sacramento Report: One Coastal Commissioner’s Take on Developing the Coast
By Nadia Lathan| Voice of San Diego
Some people garden or join a pickleball team.
Chula Vista Councilmember Jose Preciado reviews planning permits and development projects for fun.
This week, I spoke with Preciado, who sits on the powerful California Coastal Commission, about how he understands his role in the influential agency that controls 840 miles of the state’s coastline in order to protect its natural geography and keep it open to the public. The commission’s 12 voting members are appointed by the governor, Assembly Speaker and Senate Rules Committee and most serve four-year terms.
Prop 50 Cheating? California Redistricting Special Election Ballots Expose the ‘NO’ Votes
By Katy Grimes | California Globe
California voters are receiving their single-issue ballots for the Nov. 4 Special Election, Governor Gavin Newsom’s dubious mid-decade redistricting scheme, with the sole purpose of gerrymandering Republicans right out of their Congressional districts.
However, the mail-in ballots have a serious flaw: for those who vote NO, when the ballot is reinserted back in the mail-in envelope as instructed, the voter’s “NO” fill-in bubble shows through a hole in the signature block.
I conducted my own test with my ballot, and it’s true. Several friends have also done this, and reported back: once the ballot is inserted and sealed, if someone takes the ballot, or a handful of ballots and “stacks them” on the left side (kind of like you would do with playing cards), the ballot inside shifts to the left of the envelope.
