San Diego Unified Doesn’t Know How Many Students Each School Can Fit
By Jakob McWhinney | Voice of San Diego
After months of asking San Diego Unified officials how many students each district run-school can serve, they finally came back with an answer – they don’t know.
Let me rewind.
Over the past decade, San Diego County schools have lost tens of thousands of students to declining birth rates and the region’s high cost of living. San Diego Unified alone lost nearly 14,000, an about 13 percent decline.
Gavin Newsom’s Blow to Antisemitism
By The Editorial Board | Wall Street Journal
Maybe there’s hope for the Democratic Party’s anti-antisemitic wing. California Gov. Gavin Newsom last week signed legislation to police antisemitism at public schools, though what does it say that the teachers union is opposed?
The law establishes a new Antisemitism Prevention Coordinator in the state Office of Civil Rights to be appointed by the Governor. This official will train teachers, administrators and local school boards on how to spot, prevent and respond to antisemitism. Believe it or not, this isn’t already part of anti-bias training in many school districts.
Local school districts will also be required to investigate complaints of antisemitism and take corrective action if they find instructional materials were “used in a classroom or an action occurred that resulted in unlawful discrimination.” This could include disciplining teachers who use antisemitic slurs or stereotypes.
2026 San Diego County Fair Theme Announced
By Tristan Hallman | Del Mar Fairgrounds
The team that produces the San Diego County Fair, the region’s longest-running and largest community event, officially announced the new theme for the 2026 event: “Once Upon A Fair.”
This theme, which was revealed Tuesday, will invite fairgoers to open a new chapter with the celebration of the joys of reading, the power of storytelling, and the magic found between the lines. Through the rides, games, exhibits, entertainment, cuisine, and festive atmosphere of the Fair, San Diegans will be invited to write their own summer story — one ride, bite, and memory at a time.
“The San Diego County Fair is the greatest story our community has ever told,” said Carlene Moore, the CEO of the 22nd District Agricultural Association, which produces the Fair. “It’s a tale of food, fun, friends, family, laughter, tradition, music, amazement, and pure, unbridled joy. Our Fair is always an unforgettable event, and we know that Once Upon a Fair truly will be one for the books.”
