San Diego Deputy Fire Marshal Eric Dunnick — whose responsibilities include conducting fire inspections, reviewing building plans and enforcing fire code violations — earned $264,037 in overtime last year.
Dunnick’s overtime pay was nearly four and one-half times his annual salary of $59,337, according to city records obtained by Times of San Diego.
Since 2021, Dunnick has earned nearly $1.2 million in overtime, the second-highest five-year total in the city, just $100,000 less than San Diego police Officer Jason Costanza.
Midway Rising Height Exemption Movin’ On Up

Lawmakers on Tuesday advanced a bill that would make it easier to build a planned sports arena in San Diego’s Midway District. The bill, authored by Senator Akilah Weber Pierson, passed the Senate in a unanimous vote. It awaits a floor vote in the Assembly.
About Senate Bill 958: The bill would clarify that building height alone could not be subject to the Environmental Quality Review Act, the state’s preeminent environmental law. An earlier version of the bill exempted the entire project from CEQA but Weber Pierson made changes to narrowly focus on a state Supreme Court ruling that struck down a previously approved ballot measure to lift the 30-foot coastal height limit in the district.
“If everything else is fine, your project should not be stopped,” Weber Pierson, who represents the Midway District, said about exempting the stadium’s height from environmental review.

Non-whites are set to become the majority for the first time in the US by 2050, a situation mirrored in up to 16 states — including New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, according to new census data.
The expected transformation reflects astonishing demographic changes projected to sweep across America by between 2040 and 2050, fueled by international and internal migration, as well as falling birthrates, the US Census Bureau figures show.
In 1980, the US was 80% white, but that figure is expected to drop to 47% by 2050 and 44% by 2060.
