Community Power CEO’s Middling Grades

Employees of San Diego Community Power have been underwhelmed by their CEO’s performance, according to public records obtained by our MacKenzie Elmer.
Karin Burns has been CEO of Community Power – the second largest community choice aggregator in California – since 2022.
But according to a survey of employees conducted by an independent consulting firm in April, Burns’ leadership of the $1.2 billion public agency has been pretty mid.

San Diego Comic-Con is not “dying,” but it’s fair to ask: Where does the pop-culture mega-event go from here?
As far back as the ’90s, getting into Comic-Con meant lining up for a few hours along the Marina behind the San Diego Convention Center and waiting to buy a ticket. Still, fans could buy their ticket the day of the event, as opposed to having to hover over their laptop, or laptops, months ahead of time in hopes of scoring tickets.
And while the exact moment depends on who you ask, sometime in the early 2000s the event expanded from, well, a comic-book convention with pop culture offerings to a trade show that consumed — and helped rejuvenate — the Gaslamp Quarter.
Breezes, beaches and front porches: How San Diegans used to stay cool

There was a time when beating the summer heat in San Diego didn’t require air conditioning.
Fanning themselves on the front porch, driving with the car top down, boating, opening windows for the evening breeze, heading to the beach or escaping to the mountains — San Diegans had their own ways of staying cool long before air conditioning became a fixture of summer life.
Across the county, residents learned to work with the climate, using the ocean,architecture, public spaces, and nearby mountains as natural escapes from warm weather.
