Termination of protected status puts thousands of Haitians in San Diego at risk of deportation

Temporary Protected Status for Haitians was officially terminated on July 27, putting thousands of Haitians in San Diego at risk of deportation.
Temporary Protected Status is a federal program that allows foreign nationals to stay and work in the U.S. when conditions in their home country make it unsafe to return because of armed conflict or natural disaster.
The Department of Homeland Security decided earlier this year that Haiti no longer met those conditions, despite a U.S. travel advisory warning against travel to Haiti “due to the risk of crime, kidnapping, terrorism, unrest, and limited health care.”
City Council Disregarded Its Own Traffic Safety Policies for Downtown Gas Station

At 1606 Market St. in East Village, seven different driveways lead to the same gas station: three from Market Street, two from 16th Street and two from 17th. Pedestrians must pass a gauntlet of cars to walk the border of the property. The many driveways also aren’t ideal for the stream of passing cars, buses and cyclists in San Diego’s bustling city center.
The gas station complied with the car-centric zoning laws of the 1950s when it was built, but it had fallen well out of step with the city’s regulations by 2020 when Joseph Brikho applied to expand it. The Brikho family, prominent San Diego gas station and retail entrepreneurs, have been buying and fixing up old, run-down gas stations since the 2000s.
Owners that do big renovations, like the one Brikho proposed, are supposed to update their properties to comply with current law.

Viasat, Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT) announced today the successful delivery of Move Out/Jump Off (MOJO) Next tactical maneuver gateway systems to the U.S. Air Force (USAF) Air Mobility Command (AMC) in support of urgent operational requirements. Viasat’s tactical communications solutions team delivered the units less than two weeks after receiving the Task Order award, demonstrating the company’s agility and responsiveness to support U.S. Department of War (DoW) operational needs. The delivery was executed through Viasat’s Defense and Advanced Technologies segment as an individual, multimillion-dollar Task Order awarded under a sole-source Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) for a diverse portfolio of technology modernization and services capabilities.
Viasat’s advanced MOJO Next tactical gateways were subsequently deployed to support mobility aircraft, enabling AMC platforms to connect to the broader force in an unprecedented way. AMC identified an urgent operational requirement for enhanced tactical communications support, including command and control (C2) and situational awareness with integrated Link 16 capabilities. Viasat immediately responded with the MOJO Next, rapidly accelerating normal timelines to support those immediate mission demands.
