San Diego Bayfair returns bigger and better than ever

Although Labor Day is seen as the traditional end of summer, fall doesn’t officially begin until Sept. 22, which means that there’s one more big event in town before summer finally winds down: San Diego Bayfair.
For those who aren’t familiar, San Diego Bayfair is a beach festival and powerboat competition on Mission Bay. This year’s event is set for Sept. 18-20, ending just a couple of days before autumn replaces summer.
As always, this year’s San Diego Bayfair features powerboat races, live music, a classic car show, food and drink vendors, U.S. Coast Guard demonstrations and more.
Christian Cop Group That Hired Ex-Deputy Who Assaulted Women Quietly Dissolved

Change came fast and furious for the Christian Law Enforcement Fellowship.
A little over a week ago, Voice of San Diego revealed that the organization, which provided Christian counseling to cops in crisis, had brought on an ex-deputy as chaplain who’d been accused of assaulting nearly two dozen women. The piece sparked broad outrage. Within days, the organization had cut ties with the man, Richard Fischer.
Days later, though, the fellowship quietly dissolved altogether.
Experts: Extended USS Abraham Lincoln deployment exposed lack of Iran War endgame

The USS Abraham Lincoln’s more than seven-month deployment drew public attention to living conditions aboard the San Diego-based carrier. Experts say those conditions worsened as the deployment stretched on, a consequence of the Trump administration’s decision to enter the conflict with Iran without a clear plan to end it.
The administration presented the operation as a limited-effort military endeavor to eliminate Iran’s nuclear and military capabilities and coax the country to the negotiating table. But as the conflict dragged on, the administration’s stated goals and timeline evolved, raising questions about what would constitute an acceptable end to the war.
“They thought the war would finish quickly; that the sailors would be home, and so the story of the USS Lincoln, in many ways, just symbolizes the complete incoherence of U.S. Middle East policy today under Donald Trump,” said Nader Hashemi, an associate professor of Middle East and Islamic politics at Georgetown University. “The Trump administration completely misread how difficult this war against Iran would be.”
